People were motivated to stay active at the beginning of COVID-19, but the motivation is dying out after weeks of social distancing, Khouri Long says.

“People were eager and motivated, and that’s starting to fade as we are continuing to quarantine. We’re looking for something just to bring a little bit of that excitement back to Health & Fitness Day. We wanted it sooner rather than later.”

Seven local gyms – Cor Maximus, trisFIT, The Next Step, The Studio, Dance Expressions, Gymtrix and Infinity North –have relaunched Health & Fitness Day North Bay for people to stay active from their homes.

In the past, Health & Fitness Day North Bay was hosted in September, but Long says now is a good time for a relaunch.

From yoga to zumba and tabata, the gyms have created several online workouts that total more than two hours of beginner-level classes. All classes are free and suitable for any age group.

The goal, Long says, is to get people on their feet.

“We just wanted to provide a little bit of Saturday happiness to North Bay and area, get people moving, to help keep people motivated and healthy during this quarantine period.”

Long says she hopes to continue Health & Fitness Day North Bay for years to come.
