Stony Plain’s Téa Gonzales (Téa G) has released her latest pop-infused single, “See it Through.”
While she has admittedly never been in a long-term relationship herself, the single revolves around the notion of breaking free from someone you’re not meant to be with in order to focus on yourself.
“I grew up in a family where dating was just not the priority,” said Gonzales. “I based my song off of stories I’d heard through my friends. I was that person that a lot of my friends went to for advice even though I’d never been in a relationship.”
Recorded in Toronto, Ont. in January 2019, “See it Through” is the last of four thematically connected singles Gonzales recorded with high-profile producer Terence (TEE) Lam to be released following “Say,” “Losing Myself,” and “Said and Done.” TEE is best known for co-writing Alessia Cara’s 2015 Billboard Hot 100 hit “Here.” Gonzales said she was drawn to him because his discography reflected the kind of music she is passionate about making.
With the end of the pandemic in sight, Gonzales said now was the right time to release the song because its themes correlate with what the world is currently going through. In a broader context, “See it Through” is about perseverance and enjoying life in the moment.
“It’s about enjoying life right now even though there are things getting in the way. It’s nice that we have this time to be by ourselves and go back to things that we used to love to do but didn’t have time for,” said Gonzales.
In addition to the single itself, Gonzales has also released a live acoustic version of “See it Through” on her YouTube channel in order to give fans a more intimate taste of the song. Since the pandemic began last March, she said artists in general, herself included, have had to give more thought to their social media presence in order to keep their fans entertained and engaged. Her primary goal over the past 12 months has been to build her digital brand by making her website and social media more attractive and accessible.
“Before COVID, I felt like I never had time to focus on that and connect with my fans that way. This pandemic has really given me the chance to connect with my fans around the world through social media which is super cool because that can be an outlet to connecting with other people,” said Gonzales.
If all goes according to plan, Gonzales is anticipating releasing an EP this summer consisting of the four singles she recorded in Toronto with TEE as well as two to three new singles she currently has in the works. She is also hoping to step back on stage for a number of summer live stream performances that are yet to be confirmed.
“The four songs that I have previously released are a taste of what the EP is going to be about. I’ve been focusing on some new original material the last few months which I’m really excited about,” said Gonzales.
