Alex Hurley delivered a clutch line-drive RBI single to centre field in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Jays downed the Cardinals 5-4 Sunday during the North Bay Baseball Association bantam division championship at Steve Omischl Sports Field Complex.
Pitcher Joe Whittet, who scored on Hurley’s championship-clinching hit, locked down the Cardinals in the top of the seventh to seal the victory after first-year player Isaac Olmstead pitched four solid innings of relief work.
The Cardinals also got four strong innings on the mound from Reece Brown, who came on in relief. Brown and Dylan Dale paced the Cards on offence by reaching base two times apiece and scoring a pair of runs each.
The Jays include Jackson Brear, Kenny Garete, Alex Hurley, Connor Lacelle, Brock Ledoux, Logan Mills, Nick Morin, Isaac Olmstead, Jordan Pearce, Evan Robillard, Ty Sparling, Joe Whittet and coaches John Whittet, Chad Lacelle and Paul Robillard.
